Live Bench View

Watch a pack bench's camera as it happens from the Live Benches wall. One card per camera, a Watch dialog that joins the bench only while it is open, and the plain Live pill the packer sees.

Live Bench View lets warehouse staff watch a pack bench's camera as it happens, from Packing → Live Benches. It is for floor security, and for helping a packer who is stuck. It is separate from Pack video, which is the recorded clip of one pack after the fact. Nothing from a live view is recorded. Who watched, and when, is written down.

Two switches, both on

Live Bench View exists only while two switches are on.

  1. The deploy flag. Canopy sets VIDEO_LIVE_ENABLED on the API and NEXT_PUBLIC_VIDEO_LIVE_ENABLED on the web app, per environment. With it off, the /api/video/live routes do not exist, the sidebar has no Live Benches entry, and the page is a 404.
  2. Your tenant's own switch, on Settings → Video. It is off for every tenant until a tenant admin turns it on. With it off the page is a 404, the sidebar entry is hidden, and every pass to a bench's room is refused with "Live view is off for this tenant". The API checks the switch on every pass, so turning it off stops new joins at once.

Who can watch, who can be watched

Both sides are warehouse-staff surface.

  • Watching. Any tenant admin or operator without a task role can open the wall and watch any bench in the tenant. A brand user never can: the whole Packing tree is staff-only, every live route refuses client logins, and the sidebar never shows them the entry.
  • Being watched. A bench can be watched only while a packer has a live recording session on it, and only the packer who started that session gets the bench's pass to send its picture. A Packing Operator task role reaches that pass and nothing else of the live view: opening the wall sends a task role back to Pack Station, and watching a bench or reading the audit is refused.
  • The audit. A tenant admin sees who opened each bench, and when, in the Live views panel on Settings → Video. Every join and leave is kept. Operators do not see the panel.

The wall

Open Packing → Live Benches (/fulfillment/live). The page shows one card per paired camera. Use the Warehouse list in the top right to see one warehouse, or leave it on Any warehouse. The list is read again every 30 seconds, so a bench that starts or ends a session changes its card within that.

The Live Benches wall: one card per paired camera, with Camera 2 recording and its Watch button

Each card shows the camera's name, its warehouse, a status pill, and who is at the bench and since when. Where no one is, the card says so instead: "No one is at this bench" or "Video is switched off for this bench".

PillMeaning
Video offVideo is switched off for this camera.
OfflineNo live session. No one is at the bench.
RecordingA packer is at the bench and the camera is recording.
StandbyNo scan for a while, so the bench stopped writing footage. It is still live.
Degraded · no camera, Degraded · stalled or Degraded · coveredThe bench has a camera problem, named. Plain Degraded when the reason is not known.
StaleThe bench has not reported for a minute or more. Once it has been silent ten minutes, the server's five-minute sweep ends the session and the card goes Offline.

Watch appears only on a card with a live session: Recording, Standby, Degraded or Stale. An Offline or Video off bench has nothing to watch.

With no camera paired at all, the page says "No cameras paired" and points you to Settings → Devices. With cameras elsewhere, the warehouse you chose says "No cameras in this warehouse".

Watching a bench

Press Watch on a card. A dialog opens, titled with the camera's name. Under the title it says "Live from" the warehouse, and reminds you that the bench sends its picture only while this is open and that the packer's screen says Live. The picture fills the top of the dialog. Under it are four facts: Packer, Warehouse, Since (when the session started) and Bench (the same status pill as the card).

Nothing streams until the dialog opens. Opening it is what asks the bench to send: the bench sits idle in its room until a watcher arrives, then publishes a copy of its camera track. The first picture is a second or two behind the join. Closing the dialog leaves the room, and the bench stops sending when the last watcher leaves.

Over a black picture, a short message says why:

MessageMeaning
Connecting…Asking for a pass and joining the bench's room.
Waiting for the bench…Joined, but the bench has not sent its picture yet.
The bench has lost its cameraThe bench is Degraded with no camera.
Reconnecting…The pass was refused or the connection dropped. The dialog retries by itself: after five seconds for a fault, after a minute when the server said no or has no media server set up.
PausedYou switched to another browser tab. The dialog leaves the room while hidden and rejoins when you come back.
No one is at this bench or Video is switched off for this benchThe session ended, or video was switched off, while you were watching.

While the dialog is open, its facts and pill follow the wall's 30-second refresh. You watch one bench at a time; the dialog is the only thing that joins a room.

What the packer sees

While anyone is watching, the packer's top bar shows a plain Live pill, on every page, the Pack Station included. It never says who is watching. Hover it and it reads "Someone on your team is watching this bench live. The camera shows the bench, not you; nothing extra is recorded." The pill goes when the last watcher leaves, and it never appears while the live view is off.

Nothing is recorded

A live view is transit only. The picture goes from the bench to the media server to the watcher, and the WMS never carries or stores it. What is written down is who joined and left which bench, and when, for the tenant admin's Live views panel. Pack video's clips are unaffected: the bench sends a copy of its camera track, so the recording carries on whether or not anyone watches.

Turning it on and off

A tenant admin turns the view on and off from the Live bench view panel on Settings → Video. The panel lists what to have in place first: the monitoring policy, the bench signs, and the agreement with Canopy. Switching it off ends every one of the tenant's bench rooms at once, so a bench being watched and its watcher are both disconnected. The page and the sidebar entry follow within a minute.

How to watch a bench live

Open Packing → Live Benches

Open Packing → Live Benches in the sidebar. If the entry is missing, the live view is off for your tenant, or you have a task role; see Two switches, both on. Pick a warehouse from the Warehouse list in the top right, or leave it on Any warehouse. Find the bench you want. Its card must read Recording, Standby, Degraded or Stale; only those cards have a Watch button.

Press Watch

Press Watch on the card. The dialog opens and joins the bench's room. The picture reads Connecting…, then Waiting for the bench… for a second or two, then shows the bench. The packer's top bar now says Live. Check the Packer, Warehouse and Since facts under the picture to be sure it is the bench you meant.

Close the dialog when you are done

Press the X in the top right of the dialog, press Escape, or click outside it. You leave the room at once. If you were the last watcher the bench stops sending, and the packer's Live pill goes. Press Watch on another card to watch another bench; one dialog at a time.
